It’s already hard to remake an animated 1954 classic that set standards for animation but Andy Serkis does it with splendor-filled fashion and dazzle.
The film follows a group of animals that lead a revolution from their evil oppressors but with a child-like twist as it adds a new character named Lucky in a more of a coming-of-age story rather than a politically-directed story that the 1954 movie geared towards.
The film, for the most part, follows the 1954 classic for most of its beats with an updated style and a more child-like demeanor that waters down the violence of previous adaptations, obviously for children. Some people may take issue with it, but it certainly gives a finely tuned update and polish for today’s audiences.
With respect to the animation, the CGI proves to be incredibly impressive, even for today’s standards of 2025. It certainly hearkens back to an animation style that may not have been perfect but it certainly kept our attention and was entertaining to watch.
All in all, Andy Serkis’ updated “Animal Farm” proves to be an entertaining film for kids and adults, alike.
