Fight movies can either be a hit or a miss for a lot of cinemas. Salvable is something for a new age of fighters and it is truly something to gawk over even if it might seem slightly familiar in its themes.
The story revolves around a has-been boxer named Sal (Toby Kebbell) who is down on his luck being divorced from his wife and trying to make a connection with his estranged daughter. Things take a turn in Sal’s life when an old friend named Vince (Shia Labeouf) comes back into his life and offers him a proposition to get back into fighting.
The look of the film has a gritty and authentic film as it was shot in Wales. The cinematography is certainly something that can be lauded as it shows a seedy side of a country.
The performances are also very noteworthy. Labeouf and Kebbell prove to be a commendable team in and out of the boxing ring. The two can bicker like brothers and cry for each other like long-lost lovers. It’s truly a testament to both actors’ ranges.
This movie does seem to fall to the typical cliches and tropes of other rugged fighter movies, but that doesn’t mean that it’s bad. Quite the contrary, it proves to be an engaging watch for viewers.
